1. Fully Funded PhD Programs in Computational Social Intrinsic Motivation (SIM)
Summary of PhD Project
Our goal is to advance social AI, i.e. artificial agents capable of supporting us proactively or reactively in a range of virtual or embodied tasks. However, existing social AI and artificial agents more generally still struggle in delivering reliable support in situations that were not anticipated at design-time, and their decision-making processes may be hard to understand by interaction partners or operators. This project tackles these challenges by advancing Social Intrinsic Motivation (SIM), i.e. computational models of intrinsic motivation applied to the interaction of multiple agents.

10. Fully Funded PhD Programs in solid-state quantum optics and optomechanics
Summary of PhD Project
The control methods are enabled by strong exciton-photon and exciton-phonon interactions, which together form tri-partite coupling that gives rise to effective optomechanical interaction between collective excitonic states (optical) and vibrational modes (mechanical). This mechanism allows for the room-temperature control over polariton condensation Nature Photonics 13 378 (2019), enabling nonlinear optical switching at extremely low optical signals – down to the single-photon level Nature 597, 493 (2021).
